How to Make a Triple (Treble) Crochet Stitch (TR):
YO twice, insert hook into next st. YO and pull up a loop (4 loops on hook). YO, pull yarn through 2 loops on hook (3 loops on hook). YO, pull yarn through 2 loops on hook (2 loops on hook). YO, pull yarn through last 2 loops on hook.
Border Round 1: (Ensure you have not turned) Ch 1. Working down the side of the blanket and into the gap spaces at the ends of each row of the blanket body, SC evenly down the side. At the corner, 3 SC into corner st. SC into each st across the bottom. At the corner, 3 SC into corner st. Working up the side of the blanket and into the gap spaces at the ends of each row of the blanket body, SC evenly up the side. At the corner, 3 SC into corner st. For the top, make 2 SC into each gap space across the top. At the last corner (where you started the round), 3 SC into corner st. Sl st into 1st SC to join (always skip over the ch 1).
Border Rounds 2 & 3: Ch 1 and turn. SC in 1st st (st attached to ch) and in each st around. At each corner, 3 SC into corner st. When you reach the place you started, sl st into 1st SC to join.
You will now have 3 rounds of single crochet stitches.
Border Round 4: Ch 1 and turn.In 1st st (the st attached to the ch), SC. In next st, TR. *In the next st, SC. In the next st, TR.* Repeat from * to * until the corner. If your last st before the corner is a SC, add a TR in the same st as your SC (so your last st before the corner will be (SC, TR) in the same st). At the corner, (SC, TR, SC) in the same st.
[In the next st, TR. *In the next st, SC. In the next st, TR.* Repeat from * to * until the corner. If your last st before the corner is a SC, add a TR into the same st as your SC (so your last st before the corner will be (SC, TR) in the same st). At the corner, (SC, TR, SC) in the same st.] Follow the instructions from [ to ] a total of 3 times (working around the blanket).
The foundation row is that messy looking bit below the border at the top of the photo.
So to make yours like mine either chain 121 or do a single crochet foundation row of 120 stitches and then chain 1 at the end before beginning the moss stitch.
Work in moss stitch until the piece is square. If you need a refresher, that’s single crochet 1, *chain 1, skip 1 stitch, single crochet 1. Repeat from * across. Chain 1, turn, and continue in pattern, working single crochets in the chain spaces and chains over the single crochet stitches across.
Turn up the side and begin working moss stitch in rounds.
I did three stitches in the corner stitch but I think two might have worked better.
I used almost two whole skeins on the square part and one skein on the border, which I worked until I was almost out of yarn.
Fasten off, cut yarn and weave in any ends.
If you want it to be nice and square, block it when you are done. Blocking doesn’t work the wonders with acrylic yarn that it does with wool, but even just washing and lying flat to dry will improve the look of your blanket.
The final blanket following this pattern and using the yarn listed below creates a blanket that is 32” (81 cm) high x 32” (81 cm) wide.
4″ x 4″ = 8 stitches and 15 rows (following blanket body pattern)
Crochet Hook Size: K/10.5 (6.50 mm) for blanket body and I/9 (5.25 mm) for border. You may want to go up a hook size for the starting chains and/or use a different size hook to obtain gauge.
Other Materials: scissors, yarn needle, measuring tape (optional)
The Moss Stitch Blanket Crochet Pattern is written in English for right-handed crochet using US terminology. If you are more familiar with UK terminology, check out my US to UK Conversion Chart.

The Crochet Moss Stitch Blanket Pattern is made from the chain row up. To make the width of the blanket bigger or smaller, adjust the number of starting chains in multiples of 2+1 (meaning that your number of starting chains should be an odd number). To make the height of the blanket bigger or smaller, make more or fewer rows.
