Witness the Speed: Xavier Weaver's Remarkable 40-Yard Dash Time

Joe Milton

Milton is one of the most talked about quarterbacks of the draft simply because his draftable range is anywhere from mid to late rounds as analysts find it tough to grade the big quarterback. His size measurables are off the charts with his 6-foot-5 height, huge 10.3 inch hands and albatross-like 80.5-inch wingspan. The difficult part to gauge is his decision-making, as well as his accuracy, although he did complete 64% of 354 passes this season. Milton had just 20 TD throws in 2,800 yards.

He is also, quite honestly, slow, by most QB standards, clocking in at 4.7 seconds in the 40. He does have a huge arm and can launch balls 80 yards on the hop, and he has an incredibly quick release. He can do himself huge favors with a big-time performance this weekend.

What is the 40-yard dash and why does it matter?

In the 40-yard dash, players run in a straight line for 40 yards as fast as possible. The start is controlled by the runner, making it a true measure of a prospect's baseline speed.

While speed isn't the only thing that scouts and coaches look at when evaluating prospects, it's obviously an important metric for receivers and defensive backs. Scouts use the 40 to grade running backs, mobile quarterbacks, and linebackers, as well. It doesn't hold as much weight for bigger linemen, but fast times from big men are no doubt impressive and can give an indication of a player's explosiveness and burst off the line.

Renardo Green

Green grades out as a fifth-round projection, but that might be selling the former Wekiva star a bit short. His cover skills are glue-like, and this past season he held down some of the most highly regarded receivers in the country, such as LSU’s Malik Nabers.

Green held Nabers, who averaged 7 catches for 120 yards, and one touchdown per game this past season, to six catches for 67 yards and zero touchdowns, and had an interception in the season opener. He was that type of cover corner all year and is one of the best man-coverage corners in the nation.

Duda, which is his nickname, had a superb Senior Bowl and could see a very favorable draft number.

Bhayshul Tuten, RB, Virginia Tech

Bhayshul Tuten has already recorded a 4.32 40-yard dash in the 2024 offseason and will look to improve upon that time at this year's combine. He ran for over 2,000 yards and 29 touchdowns in the past two years, flashing signs of high NFL potential.

Tuten broke away for 21 carries of 15+ yards last season, 10th among all FBS rushers. When he's in open space, his raw athleticism puts him in another class as he consistently outruns defenders.

Already a promising back that should be appealing to teams looking for a dynamic and versatile back, a strong 40-time like the one he recorded last year, could significantly boost his draft stock.
