Stitches required: Backstitch. Single thread for all the design. No fractional stitches.

Monochrome design, DMC 310 or the color of your choice. The pattern is done with a single thread of floss, e.g. DMC 310. There are no fractional stitches in the pattern, but some stitches may intercross for artistic effect.

The pattern is intended for Aida 14, and can also be done on evenweave 28 over 2. It is not recommended to use a denser canvas as the details are likely to be lost. It is crafted to perfectly fit 14-count Aida fabric and effortlessly slides into a standard 40×50 frame, offering you a hassle-free and cost-effective framing solution for your holiday decor.

The Story

The design is a homage to the original watercolor illustrations by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry and offers a heartfelt journey through his classic story, blending tradition with modern embroidery techniques.

(1) Saint-Exupéry Piloting Over the Sahara – The author navigates his aircraft, the Caudron Simoun, over the vast Sahara Desert. The scene includes the iconic image of the boa constrictor digesting an elephant, symbolizing the imaginative perspective of children versus the practical view of adults.

(3) Elephants on Asteroids – Based on Saint-Exupéry’s illustration, this scene depicts a stack of elephants standing on an asteroid.

(4) Fighting the Baobabs – The Little Prince is seen diligently tending to his tiny planet, pulling up invasive baobab seedlings. Based on Saint-Exupéry’s watercolor, this scene serves as a metaphor for tackling problems before they become unmanageable.

(5) Asteroid Consumed by a Baobab – A striking scene depicting an asteroid overwhelmed by a giant baobab tree, inspired by an original draft by Saint-Exupéry.

(6) Watching the Sunset – A serene moment where the Little Prince watches the sunset on his small planet. Saint-Exupéry’s illustration captures the Prince’s longing for beauty and peace, as he can witness numerous sunsets by simply moving his chair a few steps.

(7) Caring for the Rose – The Little Prince is seen tenderly caring for his beloved rose, watering it and sheltering it with a glass globe.

(8) Leaving the Asteroid – This scene, inspired by Saint-Exupéry’s artwork, depicts the moment the Little Prince leaves his asteroid, utilizing a flock of wild birds.

(9) Meeting the King – The Little Prince encounters the King on his asteroid, depicted in line with Saint-Exupéry’s artwork.

(10) The Conceited Man – A new design showing the conceited man on his asteroid, illuminated by the sun.

(11) The Tippler – A perspective view of the tippler surrounded by bottles, based on the Little Prince’s encounter with him.

(12) The Businessman – An overhead view of the businessman meticulously counting stars, capturing his obsessive nature.

(13) The Lamplighter – The diligent lamplighter is shown on his small planet, faithfully lighting and extinguishing his lamp. Based on Saint-Exupéry’s illustration.

(14) The Geographer – A close up view of the geographer surrounded by his books, some of them mentioning the Earth and the Moon.
