Exceptionally cozy, budget-friendly, and low-maintenance, jersey fabric, like Egyptian cotton, is a widely beloved bedding material—for good reason, too. Compared to other popular bedding weaves, jersey sheets are less crisp than percale and less silky than sateen sheets. They have a stretchy, tee-shirt-like texture that makes them oh-so comfortable but slightly less durable.

While jersey sheets may have the reputation of being less durable and better suited to children or tweens, we’re here to argue that jersey can be just as luxurious as other cotton sheets. With the right care and styling, jersey sheets will last you for years, all the while getting softer as you use and wash them, and resisting wrinkles.

And if you’re a hot sleeper, don’t count these uber soft sheets out. More bedding brands are exploring alternative fibers (hello, modal, bamboo, and eucalyptus!) with moisture-wicking properties so you can stay comfortable and sweat-free through the night.

We’re currently testing jersey sheets, so while we wait for results, we’ve reviewed our favorite bedding retailers to see which brands offer jersey sheets. Our top picks include jersey sheets suitable for a wide range of sleepers, including those who prefer cooling and organic options.

Why Trust The Spruce?

Emma Phelps is an associate editor at The Spruce specializing in bedding. Just like most college students, Phelps slept on a set of polyester jersey sheets for her four years of university. She hasn’t used jersey sheets since discovering the crisp, cool feeling of percale sheets, but she also loves the soft, stretchy nature of bamboo sheets, especially as a hot sleeper. Since we're currently testing jersey sheets, Emma reviewed options offered at our favorite bedding retailers until results come in.

One More Thing

While jersey sheets generally don't require specific care instructions, we recommend avoiding washing these sheets in hot water as it may wear down the fibers faster. It's always best to wash your sheets in cold water to ensure the fiber's durability over time.

Additionally, avoid high-heat settings when it's time to dry your jersey sheets. This will help lessen the amount of pills that form on the surface of your sheets. If you hate how much jersey sheets pill, you can purchase a fabric shaver to smooth out the surface.
