Learn to Crochet a Scarf Quickly and Easily: A Perfect Project for Beginners

Finish & Celebrate the Fast, Easy, Done in a Day Crochet Scarf

Kiks + Jack Crochet highly recommends blocking your scarf. Blocking your scarf will set the panel to the shape and size you want and give it a polished look.

Weave in all your ends.

Congratulations you have finished the Fast, Easy, Done in a Day Crochet Scarf and I hope you enjoyed this free crochet pattern.

You can use any yarn and hook to make this project!
  1. Finish off and weave in ends.
  2. With the yarn and hook you’ve chosen for the project, chain until you reach the length you wish for your scarf.
  3. Add 2 chains.
  4. Follow the pattern as written.
  5. If you wish to make the scarf wider, work additional repeats of R2.
  6. End your repeat after an odd numbered row.

Next week I will be releasing the pattern for my matching March Madness Hat, so stay tuned!

PERMISSIONS AND COPYRIGHT

You may not use any Kiks and Jack Crochet photo as your own photo.

Chain a length equal to the desired width and count the number of stitches at the same time. Note depending on your gauge it will stretch out a little more after a few rows.

Kiks and Jack counted 40 chains to achieve an approximate width of 11 inches.

Kiks and Jack kept the chain as 40 chains, as 40 is a multiple of 4.

Chain an additional chain.

Row 1: ch4, 4dc in 5th ch from hook, sk next 3 ch, *4dc in next ch, sk next 3 ch, rep from * to the end, 2dc in the last ch. Turn

Row 2: ch 1 (counts as a sc), sk 1st dc, 1sc in each dc across the row, 1sc in top of tch. Turn

Row 3: ch3 (counts as a dc), 1 dc in 1st st, sk next 3 st, *4dc in next st, sk next 3 st, rep from * to end ending with 1 dc in tch. Turn.

Row 4: rep row 2

Row 5: ch3, sk first 2st, *4dc in next st, sk next 3st, rep from * towards end, 1dc in top of tch. Turn

This is a good time to check that you are happy with the width of your scarf. Sometimes the yarn stretches out more or less than you expect, and sometimes you change your mind regarding the width after a few rows (and the coloured patterns start to fall out). It’s important to check the width again before you go any further.

If your yarn is more stretchy than expected and/or you want to reduce the width, we suggest you frog (unravel) and start again reducing the number of chains you originally crocheted. Or if you decide you want to increase the width we suggest you frog and start again increasing the number of chains. It’s better to get this width right at the start. Make sure you follow all the instructions regarding multiples of 4.

Repeat rows 2-5 until you reach your desired length. End on a row 2.

  • Multiple of 1+2 for the turning chain
  • When I work into the foundation chain, I prefer working into the back bar (back bump) of the chain. I recommend working under the back bar / back bump of the chain for this project as it gives you the finished edge that matches the last row worked for this project.
  • Initial ch 2 does NOT count as 1 hdc. This means we work into the stitch at the base of the ch 2. The first st of each row will have the turning chain 2 and 1 hdc.
  • When you reach the turning chain for each row, skip it. We do not work into it.
  • To make this scarf longer, chain more stitches using the stitch multiple.
  • To make this scarf wider, work more rows.
