Keep Your Embroidery Machine Safe and Secure: A Guide to Carrying Cases
And now a little more about each of the rolling cases.
(As I mentioned earlier, if looking for a rolling tote for a large embroidery machine, consider a wagon for transport or purchase a machine-specific luggage case from your dealer.)
Dimensions: 16.5″ x 9.5″ x 13.5″
Weight: 6.2 lbs
The Everything Mary brand is like the Vera Bradley of craft storage.
The brand has been in business for over a decade and is known for producing high-quality and trendy storage solutions for sewing, scrapbooking, and more.
And, the totes they create are obviously made by people with sewing experience rather than a faceless generic Amazon company. (And they offer a 100% money-back guarantee if you’re unhappy with your purchase.)
Their sewing experience is clearly reflected in the ingenious storage spaces designed for sewing accessories–like the custom spool holders and small zippered clear pockets.
However, there is no top center handle, so keep this in mind if you want to carry your tote by hand more than roll it.
Also, because this is quilted microfiber, it will keep its shape well, but it’s not going to provide as much protection if dropped from great heights.
However, your machine is discouraged from moving around in the case by a hook and loop fastener strap that goes around it.
Sewing machine rolling case prices vary wildly depending on the brand and the features offered.
You can reasonably expect to spend around $50-$150 to get a durable, versatile tote.
I was always been hesitant to purchase a snazzy tote that cost more than my sewing machine simply because I could always replace my sewing machine for less than the cost of the tote.
However, my embroidery machine, which cost more than my used car, has its own luggage that came with it. I’m not taking any chances when transporting it around!
If you’re deciding between a sewing machine carrying case on wheels vs. a carrying case without, you’ll find that wheeled cases are more expensive since they offer that added functionality.
I hope you now have an idea of the options available for sewing machine rolling totes and can confidently pick the case that’s going to help you travel best with your sewing machine!

While I’m a huge fan of Everything Mary rolling sewing machine totes, different machines require different types of storage.
Before purchasing a rolling bag for my Brother CS7000X, I tried every imaginable way of transport: in a box in the car trunk, in a rolling suitcase, and even just sitting buckled in the passenger seat in its hard case (I don’t recommend that!)
Thankfully rolling totes are a thing, as they help us sewists travel to sewing classes, quilting groups, or even on vacation with our beloved machines without straining our backs.

If you’re investing in a sewing machine rolling case, consider a few things before making your purchase.
First, make sure the carrying case will fit your sewing machine.
Most sewing machine rolling totes accommodate every full-sized sewing machine with at least 1/2″ – 1″ of wiggle room.
However, larger machines like my big-hoop Brother Luminaire XP2 don’t fit standard rolling totes.
Also, if you plan to travel by air with your sewing machine, check the max allowed carry-on dimensions if you want to carry your machine onboard. (And if you check it, pack that bag REALLY well!)
Traveling involves more than just packing up your sewing machine.
Make sure your case is well-designed to accommodate your accessories too (fabric, needles, bobbins, thread, scissors, and more.)
And even if you just plan to store your machine in a closet in its bag and never take it anywhere, having all your notions in one place will be well worth the extra money spent on those extra compartments.
Durable rolling sewing machine cases will withstand wear and tear when getting shuffled in transit, AND they will protect your sewing machine within its frame.
Sewing machines can weigh 30+ lbs (like my monster embroidery machine), so perform a quick total weight calculation to make sure you can pick up your machine, the accessories, and the tote.
There will likely come a time when you need to pick up the tote and not just roll it!
The best part–make sure the color and design of your bag inspire creativity and make you smile each time you unpack your machine.
