  • Yarn: Yarn Art. Macrame Cotton Spectrum. 8.80 oz (250 g) and 246 yds (225 m). 80% Cotton and 20% Polyester. Medium Weight Yarn [4]. Machine wash at 40° C, dry flat. Do not tumble dry, do not bleach, iron low temperature, dry clean any solvent other than trichlorethylene.
  • Color: 1 skein color 1304 (lot 203)
  • Crochet Hook: 7 mm (L)
  • Finished Project: Basket: 3.9 oz (112 g) and 110 yds (100 m)
  • Scissors, Tapestry Needle (yarn needle), sewing thread (neutral color), sewing needle, bag insert size medium (6.4 inches diameter X 6.3 inches tall), 2 X basket handles (3.3 inches long X 0.70 inches wide) and bag strap (white gold crossbody strap: 1.5 inches wide X 30.7 inches long – or 55 inches long when extended).

You can substitute any yarn and hook for this stitch pattern – just remember when you substitute if your gauge is different, the finished size, and amount of yarn used for your project will also be different.

Finishing Instructions:

  • Weave in your ends.
  • Hand sew the metal bag loops onto the bag insert (see image 1).
  • Hand sew the bag insert to the crocheted bag cover.
  • Add the basket handles to the crocheted bag cover (I will add this once my Hobbii bag handles arrive!).
  • Now you can use your Makers Convertible Basket Bag at home, or pop on your bag strap to take it on the go! This is exactly what I needed for my small project bag.

How do I Organize My Crochet Space?

This section is about keeping your crochet space organized, which can help you save time and increase productivity. Here are some tips to help you keep your crochet supplies and tools in order.

Labelling Systems

Using a labelling system can help you quickly find the supplies you need. You can use labels to identify the contents of your storage containers or to mark the different sections of your crochet space. You can use a label maker, or simply write on adhesive labels with a marker.

Consider using colour-coded labels to help you quickly identify different types of supplies. For example, you might use one colour for yarn and another for hooks, or you could label different brands of yarn with different colours if your collection is extensive.

Shelving and Furniture

When choosing furniture for your crochet space, consider the size of your room and the amount of storage you need. You don't want to overcrowd your space, but you also don't want to run out of room for your supplies.

  • Cubby Shelves: Cubby-style shelves provide compartments for storing yarn, making it easy to sort and access different colours or types. That’s what I used too, with a simple shelf from Ikea.
  • Cabinet or Armoire: Convert an old cabinet or armoire into a yarn storage unit. Adjustable shelves or bins inside can accommodate various yarn sizes.
  • Drawer Dividers: Use these in a dresser or storage unit to keep skeins separate and easily accessible.
  • Pegboard with Hooks: Install a pegboard on the wall and use hooks to hang skeins of yarn. This provides a visually appealing way to organize and display your collection. The yarn will be exposed though.

On-the-Go Crochet? Try the Makers Convertible Basket Bag!

Hi crocheters! I’m excited to share my Makers Convertible Basket Bag Pattern with you today. This is a project I’ve been wanting to make for myself, and I’m so happy I finally got the chance to create it as part of the Gift to Myself CAL. This easy crochet pattern works as a small project basket or a handy project bag you can take with you wherever you go.

I made this one for myself because life is super busy with my two teens! They’re involved in so many school and extra activities during the week, and I’m running around every day to get them where they need to go. This little basket is perfect for keeping me organized while I wait through basketball practice, flag football, soccer, music, and horseback riding. It’s so much nicer than using a reusable shopping bag and makes it easier to crochet on the go with my yarn and hook.

I hope that some of you choose to make this project. There are some additional supplies needed to make this project and I have included them in the supplies section of my post. I was really excited to be able to choose items that would make my basket bag unique – the extra support from the canvas inner bag and all the pockets is ideal for supplies like stitch markers, scissors (no popping through the bag fabric to poke me) and crochet hooks. The durable fabric and drawstring closure keep my project neat and tidy and stop bits and bobs from falling out when I’m on the go. I hope you enjoy making your basket bag and love the little bag insert I chose from Amazon as much as I do!
