Transform Old Vinyl Records into Art: Creative DIY Craft Ideas
This is an easy recycled craft that you can make in 20 minutes or less. It makes a hip container for that small potted plant that you are planning to give someone as a gift this Christmas.

This year, our Ben Franklin Crafts and Frame Shop stores in Bonney Lake and Monroe, WA are celebrating 50 incredible years of serving our community! As we reflect on our history, we’re taking a look at some of the unique custom framing projects we’ve done over the decades – one of our favorites being framed vinyl records. Our expert vinyl record framing services have allowed us to preserve these musical treasures beautifully, turning them into timeless pieces of art.
Check out this inspo reel – so many awesome ideas for crafts to make with record albums!
Vinyl “Wave” Sculptures: Heat the record slightly and bend it into an S or wave shape. Allow it to cool, forming a freestanding piece. This can function as a decorative bookend or standalone art.
Album Cover Shadow Boxes: Use the album cover to line a shadow box. Fill the box with small collectibles or themed decorations (e.g., music memorabilia or trinkets). Another option: Cut up the cover to make a shadow box.
Vinyl Record Wall Hooks: Cut a vinyl record into thirds or quarters, then heat and bend each piece into a hook shape. Attach the flat ends to a wooden backing with screws or glue.
Album Clocks: Attach a clock mechanism to the center hole of a record.
Record Bowl Set: Shape multiple records into bowls for holding keys, snacks, or trinkets.
Album Cover Canvas for painting or collage art
Vinyl Record Lampshade: Drill small holes into a record to create a starry pattern and attach it to a light fixture.
Tiered Serving Tray: Stack records of decreasing size on a metal rod to create a tiered tray for parties or organizing supplies.
First of all, I know what you are thinking – “Why ruin a good record?” Well, there areplenty of scratched, unwanted albums out in the wild, stuck in a pile or even a landfill.
Giving these albums new life is a way to celebrate your personality, add something interesting to your decor, or simply enjoy working with a different medium.
