Material
1075 3.3mm Hunter Knife Blade Blank made of 1075 carbon steel – a very tough, versatile steel that can take a high hardness and is easy to heat treat with simple equipment. The 1075 blank is cut by waterjet so there is no heat affected zone.
More information on the supplied annealed (soft) steel and heat treating can be obtained here (note: this page is for 1084 carbon steel. However, it is also applicable to 1075 carbon steel).
Note: you will need to tidy up the profile, grind the bevels, drill pin holes, heat treat and fit a handle. Heat treating can be done in accordance with the data sheet, linked above or outsourced to a heat treating company.

SKU: NZLEATHER-TOOLKIT15N20 Nickel Alloy Steel 2 x 50 x 1220 mm. This is a simple carbon steel also containing 2% Nickel. Its primary use by bladesmiths, gunsmiths and other manufacturers of “Damascus” pattern welded steel is to provide a contrasting layer when forge welded to simple carbon steels. It can also be used like 1075 or 1084 as a cutlery steel in its own right.
Supplied hardened to 40-50 HRC.
Forging: 1175°C. Do not forge below 815°C
Normalizing: Heat to 870°C. Cool to black in still air. Follow up with further refinement cycles at descending temperatures.
Annealing: Heat to 815°C. Furnace cool to 650°C at a rate not exceeding 28°C per hour.
Grinding or Machining
Hardening: Austenitize at 815°C. Quench in Houghton’s G-Quench or equivalent medium speed oil.
